found African Emperor moth, scanned & digitally restored katty vandenberghe. Digital sketch book.
This moth was found dead and dessicated many years ago on a smallholding outside Pretoria, South Africa. The African Emperor moth has a wing span about the size of a hand. It was the first time I had ever seen one, and has been since. It's caterpillars are famously known as edible Mopani worms, still available in wild bushveld areas such as the Kruger National Park.
